Balmain Toastmasters is a local chaper of Toastmasters International in Sydney's Inner West. It is one of over 12,000 Toastmaster's clubs in over 100 countries around the world. Toastmasters is an international organisation with a proud heritage of building communication and leadership skills in its members since 1924.
Balmain Toastmasters meets every second Wednesday at Clontarf Cottage (4 Wallace Street Balmain) to develop our communication and leadership skills, and as our motto says:
Whether you're looking to become an accomplished public speaker, to enhance your interview skills, do a great wedding speech, present effectively to your customers, work team, board of directors, or communicate to the news media, we have an environment and proven process to achieve your objective.
One of our greatest strengths as a club is our diversity. A diversity of members and their interests makes for a wonderful range of speech topics.
Social commentary, humour, travelogues, the bizarre, reviews, the philosophical, politics, sex, religion, science - the range of speech topics you'll hear at Balmain Toastmasters is extraordinary!
We also have a program of guest speakers who visit our club so we can learn from their experience. This program seeds new ideas, new approaches and new skills.
Guest speakers come from the local community and from other Toastmaster clubs - and many have international speaking experience.
Why not come along as our guest and take a look? You can contact us in advance or just turn up at a meeting. You'll be most welcome.
Balmain Toastmasters was established in May 1992. Our inaugral meeting was held in Clontarf Cottage, Wallace Street, Balmain and this delighful cottage has been our home ever since. We've had members reach the International Level in speaking competitions and we participate in contests and skill training sessions with other clubs in Sydney and NSW.
We're a non-profit organisation that runs on the commitment and volunteer work of our membership.
